IDP RE-SETTLEMENT "PAINFULLY SLOW" TNA RAWAYA - The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today alleged the Government of merely shifting nearly 30,000-35,000 IDPs from camps in Vavuniya to that of other transit camps in Jaffna and Trincomalee, under the guise of relocating them.TNA Leader R. Sampanthan said the IDPs should be sent back to areas where they used to live than shifting them from one camp to another.“We heard that nearly 30,000-35,000 IDPs from Vavuniya camps are shifted to other transit camps in Jaffna and Trincomalee,” Sampanthan told today adding it is no solution to the issue. On September 7, the TNA met with President Rajapaksa for the first time since the country’s war was ended in May.The meeting that ended on a positive note saw the issue of speedy relocation of IDPs being discussed at length.Yet, the overall process of relocation remains “painfully slow” as of now, according to Sampanthan. And the matter is now scheduled to be discussed again during a meeting with President Rajapaksa’s Senior Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa.“A meeting with Mr. Rajapaksa is very much on the cards, although I cannot say the exact date now,” Sampanthan added. |
